A few days post-Superbowl XLVI, the media is printing stories left and right about the game and other underlying stories. Particularly, there is a lot of attention on the losing Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady’s wife, Gisele Bundchen. Following the game, Gisele was harassed by Giants’ fans and paparazzi. In defense of her husband she muttered, “My husband cannot f****** throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time,” which was caught on video.
While this profanity and apparent scapegoat for her husband was not supposed to be heard by the media, for it sounded like a comment made to a friend, it does not reflect well on Brady, in my opinion. I believe significant others of professional athletes should be supportive and involved in their careers, however I do not believe that they should throw teammates or coaching staffs under the bus in the process. Brady has a professional and, I’m sure, social relationship with his teammates, Wes Welker specifically, and there is a chance this could affect that. I also do not agree with the extreme negativeness and cursing used. She is a public figure in a very public setting. Even though the media is over playing this quite a bit, and she is only human who makes mistakes by slipping and saying things of this nature, I’m sure she could have found a better way to handle the fans.
